press play to hear from State Senator Becky Schmitz

Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor and a local state lawmaker say the voluntary preschool effort is vital and should be continued even in the face of an uncertain economic future. Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge says the administration remains committed to the program that offers free preschool for four year olds. Iowa could face a more than $1-billion shortfall next year. Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz says that’s all the more reason to continue free preschool. She says businesses want good educational opportunities for children of their employees. Schmitz says they also look at the future workforce of a state. Schmitz and Judge visited Washington’s Stewart Elementary School today/yesterday, which utilizes the voluntary preschool program.
