A southeast Iowa state lawmaker is holding office hours in two Washington County Communities today. Senator Becky Schmitz says she’s hoping to get the word out about new benefits for veterans and military families. One of the new programs she hopes will be taken advantage of is known as the “trailing spouse” initiative, which offers unemployment benefits to the spouses of service members who are forced to move due to a deployment. Schmitz is also hoping make veteran’s aware of the medical benefits they’re eligible fore. She’ll be at the Four Corners in Ainsworth from 9:30 to 10:15 this morning. Then she’ll be at the Washington Public Library from 10:30 to 11:15.
