The cost of renting farmland in southeast Iowa is down slightly. That’s according to the annual Cash Rental Rate Survey conducted by Iowa State University. In 2009 the cost in this corner of the state was listed at $173 per acre. This year it was $169 per acre. The statewide average this year was at $184. The report is compiled using information from a survey of farmers, landowners, real estate brokers and professional farm managers. It lists east central Iowa as having the most expensive cash rental rates at $196 per acre. While south central Iowa had the lowest rate at $151 per acre.
