press play to hear from Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar

Area high school seniors will soon be entering a new phase of their life. Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar says it’s important to celebrate the milestone of graduation, but to do so in a safe, responsible way. He says this time of year can be distracting for students, and that it’s important to give your full attention to driving when behind the wheel. Dunbar says minors who decide to use alcohol can put their future in real jeopardy. He says if they are caught drinking and driving the financial costs alone can endanger college plans. Dunbar says there’s also the very real fact that alcohol impairs judgment and motor skills, increasing the chance of an accident if you drink and drive.
