press play to hear from Washington City Councilor Fred Stark

A Washington City Councilor remains defiant to a proposal from the Iowa DOT to raise the speed limit on highway 92 on the east side of town. The 4th ward’s Fred Stark says that just because motorists are already traveling 35-40 miles per hour, isn’t a good reason for the increase. Stark says most drivers usually go 5-10 miles per hour over the speed limit. Councilors this week heard second reading of an ordinance that would change East Washington’s speed limit from 30 to 35. Mayor Sandra Johnson says while the DOT has the final say, they want a local ordinance so police can enforce the speed limit.
