Washington residents are now paying more for yard waste bags. City councilors this week approved doubling the price from 50-cents to a dollar. Mayor Sandra Johnson says that while the cost of the actual bags is minimal, what residents are mostly paying for is to have yard waste picked up. Councilors also debated whether or not to offer retailers a discount on the bags, but decided to set one flat rate. The city is also sending out requests for proposals for Washington’s garbage collection service. Mark’s Sanitation has had the contract for more than a decade.
