1st Sergeant Greg Hanshaw of Fairfield’s 34th Army Band says the unit has several former members in the Washington city area, including one that has donated thousands to the city.  John Jackson served with the band during WWII in Africa and Italy, as well as other parts of the European Theater, decades before he donated $175,000 to Washington’s new band stand project, and on Sunday at 2pm the 34th Army Band will perform there for the first time.  Hanshaw says over 4,000 soldiers serve the U.S. Army by playing in army bands across the world.
