While many local residents are gearing up for the election by displaying political signs, the Washington County Engineer is advising them to make sure they’re not in the highway right-of-way. David Patterson says most sign violations are the result of hardworking campaign supporters who are simply unfamiliar with the law. Patterson says political signs can not be put in the rights-of-way of any city street, county road or state highway. He says this includes the roadway itself, shoulders, ditches, sidewalks, utility poles and in some cases fences.
