A businessman from Marion hoping to be eastern Iowa’s next representative in congress says the best thing government can do to foster business is nothing. Republican Rob Gettemy says the government in and of itself won’t create jobs and needs to “get out of the way.” He says even things like like tax incentives that have seemingly good intentions can be detrimental. He says they distort the market and draw capital into less efficient markets. Gettemy made a recent campaign stop in Washington. He’ll have three opponents in next month’s primary. The winner will face Democrat Dave Loebsack.
