The city of Kalona is planning significant renovations. The improvements will include renovating the streetscape of Kalona’s 5th Street and Avenue B, 4th Street to the 6th Street Alley, and the Community Center Parking Lot. Storm water management, energy efficient street lighting, handicap accessible curbs, artistic quilt designs, landscaping, and street furniture will also be included. The city is receiving a grant from the state’s Community Attraction and Tourism fund, part of the I-JOBS initiative. The city was awarded $108,000 for the project. To receive the grant Kalona is required to commit some of their own funds. The total cost of the project is 2.8 million dollars.
