Mid-Prairie Community Schools has received funds from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for two projects from their Competitive Grant Program. Kalona Elementary has received ten thousand dollars to install Smart Boards. Superintendent at Mid-Prairie Mark Schneider says the boards allow teachers to bring in resources from the internet and project them in front of the class, and allows students to be more interactive. The music department also received over 34 thousand dollars for instruments for grades five through twelve. Schneider says the funds will provide instrument repair, as well as to purchase instruments like tubas that the school provides for students.
