Southeast Iowa received another round of scattered rain, wind and hail last week. The USDA reports this planting season has been worse than 2008 and 2009 for producers in a few counties in Southeast Iowa. Southeast Iowa had just under three days suitable for field work, compared to just under four days for the state. 94 percent of corn has emerged in this corner of the state, compared to the statewide average of 98 percent. Soybeans planted in southeast Iowa is at 85 percent, with 59 percent emerged. The statewide average for soybeans planted is 95 percent, with 82 percent emerged.
