Washington County Engineer David Patterson says $750,000 of the $900,000 needed to make Wayland Road south of Washington safe for drivers, and make room for bikes, will come from grants. He says the county is receiving half a million from the Iowa High Risk Rural Roads Program, and another $250,000 from the Riverboat Foundation to solve problems on the county roadway that averages one accident per month and has had two deaths in recent years.  Washington County Engineer David Patterson says the project will likely begin this spring.
