Many ball games in the area were postponed because of rain, but the Demons and the Fort Madison Bloodhounds were able to get their game in and it was a close one throughout. Fort Madison’s Dena Martin had a one out single in the top of the first and on a steal going to second, a couple of shaky throws allowed her to score so it was 1-0 early. The Demons would tie the game in the third with slap hitter Maddie Bohr at the plate and Fort Madison playing way in the left fielder was on the edge of the grass and Bohr hit a beautiful pop fly that the left fielder couldn’t get to and went to the fence. Bohr ended up with a triple on the play and would score on an infield ground ball. So it was 1-1 until the top of the fifth when the Bloodhounds had back to back hits and were able to score two to go up 3-1. Washington got a run in the bottom of that inning, with Mackenzie Adrian drawing a walk, Lucy Libe got on with a hit which put runners on the corner. Libe would steal second and on the throw down Adrian came into score. It was 3-2 going into the seventh but the top of the seventh began with a solo home run from Marisa Basham, and it would be the first of five hits in the inning that produced five runs putting Fort Madison up 8-2 and that would be the final. The Demons finish 27-10 and say goodbye to five seniors, Molly Donnolly, Lucy Libe, Caitlin Fishback, Greta Smeins, and Katy Jo Jenkins. Fort Madison improves to 23-12 and will face the winner of Keokuk and Pella for the right to go to state.
