The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks softball team is off to the state tournament. The Golden Hawks were playing Pekin here in Washington, and the Golden Hawks got Emmie Leinen and Kaitlin Kaalberg on and Olivia Lugar came to the plate and hit a single to right to score two runs. Lugar’s courtesy runner Sidney Bowlin would score from third on a squeeze bunt executed by Kelsey Berg. The Golden Hawks would add another run in the top of the fifth to beat 12th ranked Pekin 4-0. Lugar pitching threw a two hit shutout against Pekin. The Golden Hawks improve to 21-16 and make their fourth trip to state since 2005. They’ll face the winner of St. Edmond, Fort Dodge and Central Springs. Their game was suspended because of rain with St. Edmond up 12-4 in the bottom of the fourth.

Elsewhere in 3A, 6th ranked Keokuk beat 12th ranked Fort Madison in Keokuk 8-4. So the Chiefs make their second straight trip to state.
