Governor Culver says southeast Iowa farmers need faster emergency payments for flood damage. IowaPolitics.com reports Culver asked Iowa’s Congressional delegation for a technical correction bill that would provide advances under the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments program.  Last week, the Governor visited with southeast Iowa farmers who have been prevented from planting crops and suffered significant losses.  Culver says when speaking with southeast Iowa farmers, he learned that money is only now being received for SURE program payments resulting from the 2008 Iowa floods.  Culver says farmers “cannot afford to make continued investment, experience significant repetitive loss, and wait for assurance programs”.
