Iowa produces enough wind energy to power 75% of residents’ homes, but a southeast Iowa state legislator says the state’s potential for wind energy has “hardly been tapped”. State Senator Becky Schmitz says Iowa currently captures less than 1% of wind energy available, and the states 8,100 green jobs is just a start of the economic benefits available to Iowa’s economy. The Iowa Utilities Board says it has adopted new rules to encourage the development of small wind generation systems that work with already existing electric utilities. The new rules also create more eligibility for energy tax credits.
