The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials says 1.8 million additional trucks will be on America’s roads in the next ten years.  The organization’s study of the issue reports the country’s highways, ports, railroads, and other transportation systems require more than current investment amount.  Washington area State Representative Larry Marek says he and other lawmakers have already passed legislation to alleviate Iowa’s growing truck traffic.  July 1st changes now allow farmers to haul more weight with additional axles, a fix Marek says will put less traffic on Iowa roads, which can also lead to less accidents, 80% of which he says are caused by the driver.
