A new federal law has changed the look and promotion of cigarettes in Washington County. Washington Kum and Go Manager Chuck Eckhardt says 20% of in-store tobacco advertising must now have a health disclaimer, and anything that encourages the sale of tobacco products has been removed from the store. Just Eliminate Lies Washington Community Partnership Coordinator Sarah Smith says cigarette companies have also been forced to remove words such as “light” and “mild” from packaging because those words are perceived to mean a safer cigarette, which she says is untrue.
