The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking southeast Iowa farmers to consider renting unused portions of their land to the Conservation Reserve Program. Iowa Farm Service Agency Director John Whitaker says the program has increased its rental rates, “making CRP a more attractive alternative” than before.  Whitaker says high costs and low yields can make renting land to the Conservation Reserve Program the best option for farmers to get the highest return per acre, but it’s important to plan now.  The last general signup for the program was in 2006, and participation is limited.  For more information, contact the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
