The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the Iowa Department of Public Health more than $4 million to enhance hospital and community response to health emergencies across the state. Iowa Department of Health spokeswoman Polly Carver-Kimm says a contract for more than $10,000 will be offered to Washington County Hospital and Clinics.  She says a formula based on factors such as bed capacity determines how much each hospital receives, and every southeast Iowa hospital has participated in the program for several years.
