The Washington County Jail used to house more outside inmates than those from the county itself, a revenue-generating plan that put the county on track to make a million dollars. But Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar says the county currently houses no contract inmates, and has had to budget for the total loss of the program’s revenue and other budget cuts.  He says this time last year the jail was generating approximately $3,000 a day by housing 50 inmates, either from other county’s or even federal inmates awaiting trial in Davenport.  Dunbar says many factors lead to the decrease, and doesn’t believe the amount of contracted inmates will grow any time soon.
