Washington Farmers Better Off Than Areas South, East of County

[simage=1106,400,y,center]
There are few jobs where you can do everything right and still be slowed by factors outside of your control, a condition Washington County Regional Farm Bureau Manager Jerry Anderson says Iowa farmers now face. He says this time last year Illinois and Indiana farms had poor growing weather, but now those states are set to cash in on higher corn prices while Iowans try to stay optimistic with poor yields.   Anderson says above average rainfall has hurt crop yields in Washington, but as you travel south and east of the county farmers have experienced more losses.  71% of Iowa’s corn is rated good to excellent, up 6% from last week.
