Students in Washington may have community college and other opportunities with neighboring school districts this fall. Washington Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen is talking with area school districts and Washington’s Kirkwood Community College Campus to allow class sharing and the ability to earn college credit while still in high school. Jorgensen says the state of Iowa encourages schools to work with local colleges, with no cost to the school, an arrangement that Jorgensen says can actually make high schools money. He says the school district doesn’t have the type of partnerships similarly sized areas offer, but adds that there’s a lot of potential for improvement.
