Today is the 75th anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing Social Security into law on August 14th, 1935. Iowa 2nd District Congressman Dave Loebsack says he grew up “in poverty” and received Social Security benefits while living with his grandmother. Loebsack told KCII the experience has shown him the value of the program, adding that he “will always stand up for Social Security” by fighting plans to privatize and cut the program. Approximately one in five Iowans receive Social Security benefits.
