The Iowa Learning Farm is traveling across Iowa with their new Conservation Station, a mobile learning center that encourages Iowans to help protect and improve soil and water quality. One stop on the ILF’s tour is at the Running Wild event, August 21, from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge.  Through demonstrations, pictures, computer animations, three dimensional interactive displays, people can learn why Iowa’s water and soils are so precious and how they can help preserve and protect these natural resources. Visitors will learn about soil, water, crop residue, prairies and wetlands. It also has a rainfall simulator, demonstrating the affects of rainfall on the land, collecting surface water runoff and subsurface drainage.  Running Wild is a trail race, walk and educational event sponsored by Tri-Rivers Conservation Foundation and Louisa County Conservation Board. For more information go online at RunLouisaCounty.com.  There is no charge to visit the Conservation Station.
