Tuesday night a car fire 1.5 miles south of Kalona on Highway 1 slowed traffic in the area for half an hour. A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy on the scene told KCII the driver pulled over at 9:21 pm at the 1300 block of Highway 1 due to a vehicle fire.  Kalona Fire and Rescure responded to the scene, as well as other authorities to direct traffic.  The male driver did not have any life threatening injuries and was transported to University Hospital by ambulance “as a precaution”.  The area was cleared of all vehicles by 10 pm.
