Naturalist Karen Phelps to Guide Butterfly Trip to Mexico

Benton County Conservation Naturalist Karen Phelps is guiding a trip to Mexico to follow the path to the winter home of the Monarch Butterfly. The monarchs travel over 16 hundred miles from Eastern Iowa and beyond, to settle for winter in fir tree forests in the volcanic mountain range in the state of Michoacan, Mexico. Phelps will travel to Mexico with people from across Iowa and the United States to meet up with their guide, William Calvert. Calvert has over 30 years experience as a guide to the monarch wintering grounds.
