Celebration of life services for 88 year old Menno Helmuth of Kalona are Sunday (8/22) afternoon at 2:00 at the East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will follow in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday (8/21) from 4-7pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund for Pleasantview Home or East Union Mennonite Church has been established.

Celebration of life services for 85 year old Charles Roger Johnson of Wellman are Tuesday, September 7th (9/7) at 10am at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Inurnment will follow in the Wellman Public Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 6th (9/6) at the Peterseim Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A Masonic service will be at 7pm following visitation. A memorial fund has been established for Shrine Children’s Hospitals, Wellman Ambulance or Hospice of Washington County.

Memorial services for 44 year old Jeffery L. Bailey of Urbandale, formerly of Ollie, will be tomorrow at 11:30 am at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie. Visitation is tomorrow at 9 am until service time.

Washington City Council Approves $1.5 Million To Obtain Land For Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Washington City Council has unanimously approved a plan to purchase land from Bernard and Judith Bartholow, located north and west of its current wastewater treatment facility, for $1.5 million.

Ordinance Moves To Third And Final Reading Despite Protest From Two Council Members

Washington’s City Council did not remain unanimous during Wednesday’s meeting, as Councilman Fred Stark and Bob Shepard voted against furthering an ordinance that would remove the city’s 30 mile per hour speed limit signs on East Washington Street.
