Sales Tax Holiday: Washington Area Businesses Hoping For Large Turnout

Clothing and footwear considered appropriate for everyday wear such as shirts, pants, hats, socks, shoes, sandal and underclothing items under $100 each are exempt from state and local option sales tax this weekend. Washington Economic Development Group Director Ed Raber says to the best of his knowledge, Iowa’s tax free weekend was the first of its kind in the country. Now in its eleventh year, Iowa’s tax free weekend promises to be a big benefit to local businesses in southeast Iowa. Washington’s Ace and More, The Edge 2, Brown’s Shoe and Wal-Mart carry clothing and other eligible tax free items.
