The Washington County Extension Office is reminding you to save receipts for back to school shopping. Extension spokeswoman Mary Weinand says Iowa offers a “tax credit equal to 25% of your costs for qualified K-12 education expenses.” The tax credit is limited to $250 for each school-aged child, allowing $1,000 in tax exempt spending per student. Qualifying back to school items include school registration fees, required school supplies and fees for extra-curricular activities. Expenses not eligible include school lunches, transportation and clothing for everyday wear. For more information on the 25% back to school tax credit, call Washington County Extension at 653.4811.
