The Washington County Extension Office says in September it will offer training to Washington and Keokuk County residents who want to become a “Master Gardener”. Sine 1977, more than 8,500 Iowans have participated in the Master Gardener training program offered by Iowa State University Extension offices, a 40 hour course that provides information on lawn care, insects, plant diseases and other topics. Classes will run from the second week of September to the first week of November, and sessions are usually held twice a week for three hours. Participants are accepted on a first come, first serve basis, and the program is limited to 20 members. For more information on the Master Gardener program or to register for September classes, call the Washington County Extension Office at 319.653.4811.
