Two dozen athletes represented Washington County at the Iowa Games this year. Cory Kennedy of the Iowa Sports Foundation says 24 area athletes competed in Ames in June and July, earning the county four bronze and three gold medals. Siblings Hannah and Cole Anderson of Washington participated in youth track and field. Hannah won three bronze medals and Cole was awarded two bronze and a gold. Riverside’s Joseph Altmaier was the best in the state twice in Taekwando, taking home two gold medals. Iowagames.org says eligible athletes must be a resident of Iowa for at least 30 days prior to competing in the annual competition. Illinois residents are also allowed to participate.
