Last weekend The Washington County Sheriff’s office held their annual Liquor Compliance checks in the county and a large number of them failed. Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar says 12 of the 24 businesses that were tested sold alcohol to someone who was under age. Dunbar says the businesses will receive a fine for up to $500 for the clerk and a $1,500 civil fee for the business, as well as a loss of the liquor license for at least a month or could be revoked permanently.

Sheriff Dunbar says it is very frustrating because he has never seen this many businesses fail compliance checks before. Dunbar says he is not sure what the next step is from the Law Enforcements point of view other then continue to talk to the business owners and legislators for more training. Dunbar says its up to the Clerk to pay attention but in the checks 10 out of the 12 clerks didn’t even ask for ID.
