South 9th Avenue between Washington and Van Buren Street in Washington is closed today as the first phase of the Washington’s 2010 Paving Project begins. City Engineer Rob McDonald says signs and barricades have been placed to form a detour on South 6th Street to parallel South 9th, but the Van Buren and 9th Avenue intersection should remain open this fall. McDonald says local traffic and parking will continue for the time being but after approximately two weeks, traffic and parking will become “more restricted when paving is removed.” Residents in the area were notified of construction earlier this month via letter.
