Southeast Iowa School Districts are receiving more than $1.4 million from the federal Education Jobs Act to save education jobs. A news release from the Iowa Senate reports the Washington, Fairfield, Highland, Lone Tree, Mid-Prairie, Pekin, and Waco School Districts can now save nearly 28 teaching positions with the money.  In the release, State Senator Becky Schmitz said it would be a “big mistake to put this money in the bank for next year instead of in classrooms where it is needed now.”  Washington schools will receive $352,000, and the entire state will receive an estimated $96 million from the Education Jobs Act.
