The First KC STAAR Action Team meeting was held September 14th and attendance was higher then any previous meeting. Project Director Lynne Zoulek says the group which stands for, Keokuk County School Tactics on Alcohol Abuse Reduction’s kick off event had 48 people attending, more then any previous meeting.
Zoulek says they are making several changes this year putting more emphasis on youth participation and youth leadership, so she says they are doing a leadership day in a few weeks. She says they are holding election for officers next week and planning for red ribbon week in October
Zoulek says over all they have 70 members so far but are welcoming to anyone who is interested. Student members must sign a pledge to commit to an alcohol and other drug free lifestyle, to be a positive role model to their peers. KC STAAR is a collaboration of Pekin, Sigourney, Tri County and Keota Schools. For more information and to get involved you can visit www.kcstaar.org or call 641-224-2271
