The first Washington County Zoning amendment request is nearly approved. Tuesday the Washington County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing to discuss a rezoning request by Ronnie Herschberger of Kalona Tire Company. The amendment will change property located south of Kalona at 1239 Highway 1 from Urban Reserve to Commercial District to use as an equipment repair and service center. Washington County Zoning Administrator Steve Lafaurie said residents and businesses within a quarter mile of the area were notified of the request, and he had received no comments from the public since that time. Earlier this month, the Washington County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended adopting the amendment.
