Two accidents over the weekend, involving kids, one a 17 year old boy in Cone Marsh have brought up hunting safety concerns. Kevin Baskins, Communications Chief with the Iowa DNR says a 17 year old was hit by a shot gun pellets while hunting by another group of hunters. Baskins says the boy is fine now, but the incident brings up safety tips that everyone needs to remember to follow.

Baskins says you should be familiar with how the fire arm works, how it loads, where the safety is, so you are conscious of how it operates. Baskins says you should also treat every firearm as if it is loaded. He also says you should have a plan and share those plans with some one else so that if something does happen, you can be found. Baskins says even with the two incidents this weekend, if you look at the last 30 years hunting accidents have dropped because of the now required hunter safety courses.
