Washington’s City Council will decide this evening whether to rescind the 30 mile per hour speed limit on East Washington Street. The Iowa Department of Transportation technically has speed limit control over the road and has recommended an increase to 35 miles per hour, despite protest from Councilmen Bob Shepard and Fred Stark.  They say the increase poses a safety concern for residents, specifically those at the United Presbyterian home.  Washington’s City Council will also hold a public hearing for the 2010 Paving Project, and hear a report on the Washington Municipal Band from Dr. Paul Towner.  The Washington City Council meets at 6pm on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 120 East Main Street.
