Local growers are harvesting lower corn yields than this time last year. Area farmer and Washington County Farm Bureau President John Berdo says farmers are beginning to harvest and hope to finish by Thanksgiving.  He says his and other low corn yields have helped drive up the price of corn.  Kat’s Grain in Washington reports corn was selling at $4.80 per bushel at the close of Monday’s  markets, and Tyson Foods in Columbus Junction reports in the last couple of weeks the cash price of hogs has been in the low $60s per 100 lbs..  Berdo says there is some good news for area farmers as corn crops are “a lot drier than last year … which will help as far as dollars spent.”
