The Demon cross country team was in Knoxville running at their District/Regional Meet. On the boys’ side Grinnell, Knoxville, and Pella were the three teams that qualified for state. The Demons finished 9th as a team. Demon Head Coach Ryan Gratz says they were led by Noah Lebsack. On the girls side Pella, Benton Community, and Williamsburg are the three schools moving on to state. For the Demons, they finished 10th. Gratz says they got good runs from Stacy Stanton and Mariah Righard. Regan Enfield was the Demons’ best finisher, but Gratz says she didn’t run as strong as she did at conference, but the good news is she has another year.

In Class 2A, on the boys side, Mid-Prairie’s Justin Hochstetler won his District at Wapello. His teammate Peter Schwartz also qualified for state. On the girls’ side, Mid-Prairie’s Sofia Chmaruk was the only area girl in 2A to qualify.

In 1A, at the Wapello site, the host team won, IMS was second and Prince of Peace was third. Individually, IMS Bill Spencer took first, Winfield-Mount Union’s Andrew Liles and Lone Tree’s Tyler Gosnell qualified for state. On the girls side in 1A, Pekin, Prince of Peace and Lone Tree were the three teams that earned the right to move on to state. Pekin had the top three finishers. Individually, WACO’s Madison Roth qualified. The state meet will be run next Saturday.
