An 87 year old woman has died in a late night house fire in Washington, despite the blaze being “under control in ten minutes or less.” Washington Fire Chief Tom Wide says at approximately 8:45 P.M Thursday, a neighbor reported the fire at 744 East Jefferson Street.  24 Washington volunteer firefighters responded as well as personnel from Washington County Ambulance, Washington Police Department, the City of Washington, and Alliant Utilities. The home’s only resident, 87 year old Clara Anne Pearson, was transported to Washington County Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Fire Chief Wide says home’s kitchen was “gutted” while the rest of the house suffered heat and smoke damage.  He says the cause of the fire is “undetermined at the moment” as authorities await the conclusion of an investigation by the State Fire Marshall.  Stay tuned to KCII Radio as more information becomes official.
