Washington County Supervisor Jim Rosien was the only supervisor this week to vote against the renewal of a liquor license for the Riverside VFW. At this week’s meeting, Sheriff Jerry Dunbar said the Riverside VFW had recently sold alcohol to a minor for a third time in the last three years and will receive a 60 day suspension from the state.  Washington County Attorney Barb Edmondson told the board that the VFW would have “recourse through the courts” if they denied it the right to sell alcohol, but said she could not predict what the outcome of what an appeal would be.  Supervisor Adam Mangold said the board should approve the license and let the state deal with the VFW based upon restrictions already in place.  The board voted four to one to renew the liquor license, which could be permanently revoked if another minor is sold alcohol.
