The Washington Demon basketball teams were in Wayland last night for a doubleheader Hall of Pride Scrimmage with the WACO Warriors. In the girls game it was back and forth. The Demons had the early lead after one 11-4, but WACO would come back and take the lead in at halftime. It was a one point difference going into the fourth, and down the stretch the Demons held onto a four point lead. The Warriors were down three with the last possession but couldn’t get a good shot and Washington won 50-47. For Washington Lauren Vitteteo had 16 with three 3’s, Sydney Greiner had 14 points and went 6-8 from the free throw line, Johannah Vittetoe had 10 and Regan Enfield hit a couple of three’s to score 7. For WACO, Gwen Cox had 14, Angela Davis 13, Michaela Kremer 10 and Kayla Conwell hit a couple of threes to end up with six.
In the boys game, the Demons took control with their press defense and quick drives to the hoop to win going away. Washington was up 38-18 at the half and won 69-37. The impressive thing about it is the Demons scored 69 points and did so without anyone scoring in double figures, that’s how much they spread it around. Colin Steele and Nic Williams each had 9, Colton Covington and Anthony Ossman each had 8, Brock Kimball had 7, and Jordan Gier had 6. For the Warriors, Brady Stauffer had 15.
Because it was a Hall of Pride Scrimmage, the games don’t count towards either teams’ won-loss record so the Demon girls remain 1-0 as does WACO, and the Demon boys get set to open their season hosting Mid-Prairie on Tuesday.
