The Iowa DNR and IOWATER are encouraging Iowa students to submit their artwork and poetry to the annual River of Words contest by Dec. 1st. Every year, River of Words conducts the poetry and art competition for students ages 5 to 19. While students must submit their entries to the River of Words organization in California, all Iowa entries are sent back to the DNR for the statewide competition. Winners of the statewide contest are included in a traveling exhibition. In 2010, the exhibit was featured at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque and the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.
