New Graduation Requirements for Students
Posted By News On @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled
Students this year for the first time will have to meet increased graduation requirements from the state. These requirements say they must take four years of English/language arts and three years each of math, science and social studies. Mid Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider says one of the things the Mid-Prairie School District did when these requirements came out was they decided to have three different sets of graduation requirements.
He said depending on what a student wants to do after graduation they suggest different recommendations on what classes students should take. Schneider says they made separate graduation requirements for students who wanted to go to a four year school, students who wanted to go to a community college, and students who wanted to go straight to work after high school. Schneider says it helps students come up with classes that best fit their needs. State and national standards that dictate what students learn in the classroom in each grade will be mandatory in high schools by 2012 and in all public schools by 2014.
