Local students may or may not be following recent trends when it comes to texting. A recent study has shown that more than half of children who use electronic media before bedtime may have mood or learning problems during the day. Keota High School Principal Lisa Brennaman says she doesn’t think she’s seen an increase in electronic media in the past couple of years, even though some kids are tired during school. Brennaman says kids who are going to stay up late are going to stay up late. Brennaman says she chooses her battles when it comes to texting in schools. She says if it doesn’t affect instruction and is not an annoyance they allow texting by students in the school. Brennaman says her teachers have actually seen a decrease in cell phone use since Keota School district put in place a policy two years ago where students had to keep their cell phones in their lockers during class.
