Before you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal, a local food inspector reminds you that the holiday is also the number one day for food related illnesses. Washington County Food Inspector Jeannine Wolf says this is because people are cooking in large quantities and they aren’t used to doing that. Wolf says turkey needs to be carefully handled because you can get salmonella from it. She says you should not have any other foods out when you are handling the raw turkey and you should not wash the turkey off. She says when you cook the turkey it cooks off any kind of bacteria. Wolf says after you are done with the raw turkey you should wash everything. Wolf says the USDA website has very good information on cooking tips at usda.gov.
