Americans are expected to increase their spending on gifts this holiday season, and Iowans likely will follow the trend. Bobbi Peiffer, owner of the Cherry Blossom Boutique in Kalona says they have seen an increase in business this year not only in gift giving but in holiday decorating too. Peiffer says Black Friday was very busy even though they didn’t run any specials. She says she has seen other Kalona businesses have good foot traffic as well. Total spending on gifts is expected to increase 2.1 percent over last year, according to a survey released by the National Retail Federation. Consumers are expected to spend about $520 on gifts for friends, family and co-workers.
